Painted Blooms Box Frame

Painted Blooms Box Frame Feb 2015 by Amanda Bates at The Craft Spa (6)

So here is the final project we made last week at my Painted Petals & Blooms class – and this was also a project for my All Day class on Saturday… I was determined to make everyone cut into their gorgeous piece of Painted Blooms papers… you know the one… great to stroke but SO hard to cut!

So I searched various shops and on-line for a nice – but inexpensive - box frame. To no avail…way above my class budget! And then I watched a few moments of crafting TV… saw some envelope boxes…and had a Eureka moment!!

And the Eureka was great for the box section on each side… but the corners left me baffled!! So it was onto the Internet and a bit of research… 2 hours later and I was no better off – there are many box frame tutorials but the corners didn’t do it for me….so it was back to my paper sample… and trial cutting this way, then that, then the other  …. and suddenly it just… worked!!!

So those beautifully mitred corners took me quite a long time to work out …. but this project does not a long time for anyone to make. Once you know the tricks…well the rest is easy! But more on that another day….  I can feel a tutorial coming on if you are interested….

So back to the project…the box frame is made from one piece of 12x12 paper…the leafy one!

Then the floral picture within is cut from “The Gorgeous Piece” … and I have paper left to make some more great cards…

All finished off with simple Rich Razzleberry stamping of the Feel Goods words to bottom left and Pool Party Perfect Pennants stamping/ Framelit die cutting to the top right. With a sprinkling of Dazzling Diamonds Stampin Glitter glue to finish off. Actually less of a sprinkling… there is loads on there!

And now it is ready to hang on my kitchen or utility room wall… the colours were pre-tested after all!

And how much did I love this Box Frame…. well if I say that I have already made 10 variants… I think you may get the picture!!!

And another Painted Petals card to go in the Box

Painted Petals by Amanda Bates at The Craft Spa - CASED from Sally Jo Houghton (1)

And to finish off my Painted Petals series..here is that last card that my ladies made to go in their box. This time the leaves were inked in Pistachio Pudding and a light marker stroke with Wild Wasabi to give them some definition…

This stunner is a complete CASE of a swap card at January Training made by the very talented fellow  Jem, Sally-Jo Houghton. Sally-Jo’s work is always SO impressive – she is a true creative being…. I also have to thank Sally-Jo for showing me the way to the fantastic Hello Life stamp set!

I just changed the stamping panel to Naturals White and the greeting colour to Rich Razzleberry  to fit in with the other cards going into the box.Painted Petals by Amanda Bates at The Craft Spa - CASED from Sally Jo Houghton (2)

Look at all that shiny glitter….

More Extra Large Square Painted Petals Happy Mothers Day Cards

Painted Petals Large Square Card by Denise at The Craft Spa (6)

And here are another 2 versions of the extra large square Painted Petals card. I had made another sample to show that the wreath effect could still be achieved but more simply ie direct leaf stamping without all the fussy cutting!

So here is Denise's stunning version (as she wasn't in the mood for the cutting.... or the kissing either as I can now see!) Her mum likes a softer pink so she grabbed the Blushing Bride and the Blackberry Bliss too…and WOW!

Now Karen went for lots of kissing and some extra fussy cutting! So she has added a few extra single flowers to balance out either side…stunning….

Beautiful cards ladies – hope your mums are happy too!

Large Painted Petals Wreath card #2

Following yesterdays post, here is a  variant of the large square card we made.

Painted Petals by Amanda Bates at The Craft Spa (4)

This is actually the original sample  I made -  I knew that a few people would not like the large wording from Hello Life that I had used. I LOVE it and have used it on a LOT of projects– but it isn’t to everyone’s taste … Though I have to admit I had completely overlooked this stamp set in the Spring Summer catalogue – it is on Page 6 under a Home Decor kit – don’t  miss it too!

Painted Petals by Amanda Bates at The Craft Spa (9)

The leaves are also different…instead of kissing to add some texture/definition in yesterdays – i just dragged a marker pen down the centre of the leaves after inking the leaf image in Wild Wasabi – and then stamped. Some with and some without ( Kissing being a lot quicker!!)

Painted Petals by Amanda Bates at The Craft Spa (11)

And a bit of extra flower stamping around the card blank to finish off….

Oh – and the ribbon is from the Artisan Embellishments kit…

Large Painted Petals Wreath card

Painted Petals by Amanda Bates at The Craft Spa (13)

And here is the last card of the Painted Petals series we made this week. A large but straightforward 7 1/2” Square card for special ladies for Mothers Day or Birthday – or any occasion really!

So I used the fabulous – but often overlooked -  “leaves image” in the Crazy About you stamp set. And as it is a solid image…yup you guessed it – we were all kissing again! This time with Wild Wasabi on the I Love Lace background stamp & Pistachio Pudding on the leaf.

Painted Petals by Amanda Bates at The Craft Spa (18)

8 leaves – and a bit of hand cutting & finger squeezing to give definition later – and you have a great wreath. The leaves were just arranged around a circle which was just drawn around the outside of the largest circle framelit.

Tip for you though – make sure you stick the end leaf over the narrow stem part. ( we all naturally arrange it the other way ie placing the narrow stem under the leaf – which is fine for a dry run… but do the sticking the other way – as it is a lot simpler and faster! This will mean nothing as you read this – but it does makes total sense when you are doing it!

And the flowers are again just hand cut & defined using a thick mat and embossing stylus– mainly just the trio from the 5 flower image as they are the easier part to cut out…. I did actually start with cutting out the full 5 part flower and leaves image – but then I realised there would be an hour of cutting instead of the 15 minutes of this version – looked great but that 3/4 hour had to be cut!

Painted Petals by Amanda Bates at The Craft Spa (24)

The Mothers day wording is also from the Crazy About You stamp set. I LOVE that you can place the HAPPY next to the separate MOTHERS Day on the block and just stamp away. Though I have to admit that I cut away a tiny bit of surrounding plastic to achieve the exact same spacing between the words…

And this is die cut using the great shape in the Project Life Framelits set – just perfect for the banner shape needed…

And all finished off with a bit of simple stamping inside the card…

Oh and I have a few other variants to share of this card tomorrow….
